Ibarra named as new Saints coach December 20, 2004 Saints Volleyball will welcome back a familiar face as former assistant coach Phil Ibarra was announced as the Saints new head coach by Saint Martin's athletic director Bob Grisham on Thursday. Ibarra will replace Clyde Reis who recently resigned after five seasons. "He has an extensive background in volleyball and I like what he brings," Grisham commented. "He brings an energy and excitement. One of Phil's strengths is how he communicates to his players. They will know what his expectations are." Ibarra, who is recognized as a long-time club coach in the area, served as Reis' assistant in 2000. His resume also includes a stint as the head coach of the women's U.S. Armed Forces volleyball team in the early 1980s as well as the Timberline High School head coach from 1993-98. "My goal is to make a name for Saint Martin's volleyball in the community and make it a place where kids want to go," Ibarra said. "The bottom line is recruiting. That's the key to success." Ibarra has already begun the recruiting process and expects to announce his assistants within the next couple of weeks.
