Track and Field: Three new records set at UW

Seattle, WA – Saint Martin’s set three new school
records on a cold and windy day at the UW Outdoor Preview Meet on
Saturday at Huskey Stadium.
Freshman Sam Washington again set new standards for
SMU in both the men’s hammer and shot put. Washington smashed the
previous school record in the hammer by almost 24 feet with a throw of
114’ 2”. In the shot put he added two more inches to the record he set
three weeks ago with 48’ 6.25”, giving him a second place finish.
In the women’s hammer Jillian Blake posted a throw
of 105’ 8” to beat the previous best by seven inches.
Chelsi Claussen picked up two second place finishes
in the 100m and 400m hurdles. She finished with a time of 16.41 in the
100m and 1:08.03 in the 400m.
Mike Vavricka got a personal record and GNAC
provisional qualifying mark in the men’s shot put with a throw of 40’
11” while Jessie Dunnam also earned a GNAC provisional qualifying time
in the women’s 3000m with a time of 11:00.43.
The Saints next meet will be the UPS Invitational on
April 5.
