Track: Riak honored by GNAC
February 4, 2008
Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s John Riak was named as
the Great Northwest Athletic Conference men’s track Athlete-of-the-Week.
Riak ran the third fastest mile in GNAC indoor
history at the UW Invitational meet last Saturday. He posted a
provisional national qualifying time on 4:12.53.
It was a new personal record, almost three and a
half seconds under his previous best, and ranks him 15th in the nation.
Riak’s time puts him behind Saint Martin's alumni
Nate Carlson and Andy Prentice, both former NCAA Div II All Americans,
for the GNAC best.
“This was a big PR for John in an event that has
given him a chance to work on some speed for his longer distances for
outdoor track,” said head coach Julie Sullivan.
