Track: Two Saints take part in UW Invitational

February 2, 2008

Seattle, WA – Saint Martin’s John Riak and Sam Washington participated in their final meet before the GNAC Championships as they took part in the UW Invitational Indoor Meet Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor facility.

Riak ran a Division II National provisional qualifying time in the men’s mile with a time of 4:12.53. It was a new personal record, almost three and a half seconds under his previous best.

“It was a great race for John; he ran a sensible, very even paced race,” said head coach Julie Sullivan. “It’s really exciting to see John, who is usually a 5k runner, run a fast mile.”

In the men’s shot put Washington posted a throw of 45.05”.

“Sam was out with the big boys today; there were some potential DI champions in his event and as a freshman I think he performed really well. He’s definitely going to get better,” said Sullivan. “I look forward to seeing what those guys can do at the conference meet.”

The Saints’ are preparing for a trip to Nampa, ID later this month to compete in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championship meet on February 18th.
