Track: Saints post strong showing at Championship Meet

Bellingham, WA – The Saint Martin’s track and filed team had one of their most successful outings at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships held at Western Washington University this past weekend as all seventeen athletes scored points for the Saints.

John Riak retained his conference title in the men’s 10,000m, establishing a new meet record with a time of 31:11.98. He also took third in the 5,000m posting a time of 15:05.85.

Krinda Carlson lowered the school record in the women’s 1500m by another two seconds at 4:44.85 to take fifth place.

Jessie Dunnam put together a solid last mile to take second place in the women’s 10,000m. Chelsi Claussen was the Saints other top three finisher running the 400m hurdles in 65.27. She also finished fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.28.

In the men’s high jump Bill Richardson jumped 6’4” to claim fifth place. Josh Gatbunton ran the 1500m in 4:02.51 to take sixth while Asiki Ayume also took sixth in the 800m with a time of 1:58.80. Amy Layton earned a season’s best finishing sixth in the 800m at 2:22.70.

Niwar Nasim set a new personal record in the 10,000m posting a time of 32:59.98, good enough for seventh. Taylor Shipman ran a 90 second PR to finish eighth in the 10,000m with a time of 41:38.30.

Finishing seventh in the 800m with a time of 2:23.27 was Jenn Grover. Caleb Timmer took eighth in the triple jump at 41’8.5”.

All three of the Saints’ relay teams finished all-conference. The women’s 4 x 400m and the men’s 4 x 100m teams both finished seventh. Jessica Pendon, Grover, Kaleigh Bishop, and Claussen came in with a time of 4:17.59 while on the men’s side Timmer, Robbie Wilbur, Connor Flaherty, and Brian Daltoso posted season’s best time of 46.51.

The men’s 4 x 400m relay team of Gatbunton, Wilbur, Timmer and Ayume ran 3:32.83 to finish eighth.
