Track: Riak wins two events; Dunnam sets school record

Tacoma, WA (March 23) – John Riak picked up two wins for the Saints while Jessie Dunnam set another school record at the Puget Sound Open on Friday at Baker Stadium.

Riak ran a meet record 1:55.75 on the 800m, also a new PR. He also won the 3000m with a time of 8:49.14 less then an hour later.

Dunnam set her second school record of the year in the women’s 3K with a time of 10:42.14 to finish second in the race.

Aaron Edwards also picked up a win in the long jump going 21’01.25. He also set a new PR in the men’s shot at 32’9’.75 and posted a 5’10.75 in the high jump.

Riak, Dunnam and Edwards earned GNAC provisional qualifying times for their efforts.

Jennifer Grover took the second heat of the women’s 800m with a time of 2:27.30.

Others setting new PRs included Jessica Pendon in the 200m with a time of 28.26, Mohammed El-Jazoub in the shot at 26’10” and the discus at 79’9”, and Niwar Nasim who posted a time of 9:18.29 in the men’s 3K.

The women’s 4 x 400m relay team, made up of Chelsi Claussen, Jessica Pendon, Jennifer Grover and Krinda Carlson, and the men’s 4 x 400m relay team, Caleb Timmer, Josh Gatbunton, Asiki Ayume, and Brian Gerry, posted season bests in their respective races. The women’s team finished with a time of 4:14.74 and the men’s team with a time of 3:38.64. Also picking up season’s bests were Claussen in the 200m finishing in 26.87 and Bill Richardson for his 137’7” javelin toss. Richardson also tied a meet record in the high jump at 6’2.75”.

Others performances for the Saints included Kaleigh Bishop in the 800m with a time of 2:45.35, Taylor Shipman and Katelynn Blume who ran 11:47.73 and 12:44.29 in the women’s 3K respectively.

On the men’s side Gerry and Brian Daltoso ran in the 200m. Gerry finished in 23.6 and Daltoso in 25.22. Devin Sturgeon posted 33’10” in the shot, 99’6” in the javelin and 85’3” in the discuss.

Timmer, Ayume, Gatbunton and Kevin Tober all took part in the 800m. Timmer finished with a time of 1:59.81 while Ayume ran it in 2:00.60. Gatbunton and Tober posted times of 2:01.92 and 2:15.98 respectively.

Tris Obluck ran the men’s 3K in 9:36.61 with Tristan Beach right behind him at 9:36.62. Steven LaLonde, who also ran the 3K, finished with a time of 9:39.07.
