Track: Saints receive strong performances at conference meet

Nampa, ID (February 19) – The Saint Martin’s track team posted meet records, school records and personal bests at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in the Idaho Sports Center.

Breaking through the field at the halfway point, John Riak won the title in the men’s 5000 meter run, breaking a GNAC meet record with a time of 15:01.67.

Krinda Carlson set her first school record in the women’s 800 meter. Her record time of 2:20.09, a record for both indoor and outdoor, was good enough to finish sixth.

In her first ever track 5000m Amy Layton finished fifth with a time of 19:30.14. Asiki Ayume stepped up to take eighth in the 800m with a time of 1:59.64, a new personal record.

Chelsi Claussen, who had her first track workouts just last week, took fifth in the women’s 60 meter running an 8.25. With a jump of 5-10.75 Aaron Edwards placed seventh in the men’s high jump.

Both 4 x 400m relay teams scored points for the Saints at the meet. The men’s team of Caleb Timmer, Josh Gatbunton, Ayume, and Bryan Gerry finished fifth with a time of 3:30.06. On the women’s side, Jessica Pendon, Jennifer Grover, Claussen and Carlson finished with a time of 4:19.67 to place sixth.

Pendon ran her best 400 meter of the season, with a time of 1:01.80, to finish just outside the points range in ninth place.

Brian Daltoso, Niwar Nasim and Taylor Shipman all set PRs in their events. Daltoso ran the 200 in 25.50 while Nasim finished the 5000m in a time of 16:28.76. Shipman posted a time of 20:39.49 in the women’s 5000m.

In the women’s one mile run Dharma Beatty finished with a time of 5:44.38 to place 13th while Jessie Dunnam came in 15th with a time of 5:49.57. Jennifer Grover took part in the 400 meter dash and finished 14th in a time of 1:07.54.

Katelynn Blume ran the 5000 meter run in 22:42.49 to take 16th place. In the women’s shot put Danika Washington’s throw of 8.36 landed her in 13th place.

Timmer and Gatbunton both took part in the 800 meter run finishing 10th and 15th respectively. Timmer posted a time of 1:59.90 while Gatbunton finished in 2:04.04. Gerry ran in the 400 meter dash and placed 12th with a time of 53.64.

Steven LaLonde and Robbie Wilbur finished 19th and 20th in the men’s 5000 meter run. LaLonde ran a 17:10.89 while Wilbur finished with a time of 17:14.14.
