Track and Field: Saints ink two standout athletes

May 23, 2006

Lacey, WA --- Helen Camden from Yakima, Wash., and Krinda Carlson from Pateros, Wash., have signed National Letters of Intent to participate in Cross Country and Track and Field at Saint Martin’s University next year, head coach Brad Hooper announced.

Camden, a senior out of Eisenhower High School, was a four-year varsity letter winner in track. She participated in the 4 x 400m relay, 800m, 1600m and 3200m among other events. In her junior season, she placed eighth at the State Championships in both the 1600m and the 4 x 400m relay.

In cross country, she was a first team All-League and All-State Senior Team selection. She also helped lead the team to League, District and Regional Championships en route to a fifth place finish in the team standing at the State Championships.

“Helen is just at the tip of her talent,” Hooper said. “She has a lot of talent and will shock many people next season.”

Carlson, a senior from Pateros High School and the younger sister of former Saint Martin’s All American track athlete, Nate Carlson, has garnered numerous accomplishments with her senior season still underway. She was Region XIII Junior Olympic Champion in the 800m and 11th in the USATF National Championships her sophomore year. Her junior year, she was District and Regional Champion in the 800m and went on to finish fourth at the State Championships.

A cross country athlete for three years as well, Carlson competed at the State Championships and placed in the top 25. She received first team All-League honors and was the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award.

“Krinda is an awesome talent,” Hooper added. “She has a huge upside and can look forward to an outstanding collegiate career at SMU.”
