Softball: Saints sweep Crusaders

Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s got solid pitching
performances on their way to a two game sweep of Northwest Nazarene
University, beating the Crusaders 3-2 and 5-1 Thursday afternoon at the
SMU Softball Field.
Game one saw the Crusaders take an early lead going
up 2-0 with runs in the third and fourth innings. Saint Martin’s got one
back in the bottom of the fourth as Brandi Klemm doubled to left field
to score Holly Morris.
SMU would take the lead for good in the fifth as
Kristi Sigafoos tripled to plate two runs. Alicia Fuchs led the Saints
with two hits in the game.
Cassy South earned the win throwing 6 1/3 innings
and allowing just two runs on six hits. Klemm came in to pick up the
save.
The Saints scored first in the nightcap as Morris
launched a two run homer to center in the second. They plated three more
in the fourth on RBI singles by Morris and Marlaina Irwin and a
sacrifice bunt by Kristine Kaneshiro.
Northwest Nazarene got their only run in the top of
the seventh when Amanda Phillips doubled to score Haley Hevern.
Fuchs threw a complete game to get the win for the
Saints. She surrendered just six hits while walking three and striking
out two.
The Saints are back in action tomorrow afternoon as
they take on Simon Fraser in non-conference action at 1pm at the SMU
Softball Field.
