February 29, 2008 Richland, WA – Saint Martin’s dropped both games in the opening day of the Clarion Hotel Central Washington Invitational falling to Western Washington and Central Washington then split on day two beating Northwest Nazarene before losing to Seattle University. Game one saw the Saints lose 4-2 as Western’s Jennifer Jorgensen did not allow an earned run in 6 2/3 innings. She left the game in the top of the seventh with the bases loaded. Kristi Sigafoos drew the walk to force in a run and SMU scored another run on a fielding error before the Vikings could record the final out. Western got three runs in the first and extended their lead to 4-0 in the fourth on a lead-off homerun by Caitlin Dotlich. Danny White and Kristine Kaneshiro led the Saints with two hits each, while White also scored a run. The Wildcats came out swinging against the Saints tallying three runs in the top of the first. They broke it open in the fourth adding five more on their way to a 9-1 victory. SMU picked up their only run in the bottom of the first in a fielder’s choice by Megan Crager. Katy Jones pitched a complete game for Central holding the Saints to just four hits. Saint Martin’s started off day two against Northwest Nazarene and cranked out 11 hits as they defeated the Crusaders 11-6. The Saints got on the board in the bottom of the first with four runs on two hits including a two RBI single by Crager and a RBI double by Jamie Herrick. They added three more in the second taking advantage on a Crusader error and a base hit by Holly Morris. NNU would tack up three in the top of the fourth inning but the Saints quickly answered back with two more in their half of the inning to make it 9-4. Morris had three hits and three runs batted in and scored a run for SMU. Herrick earned the win going 3 1/3 innings and allowing two earned runs on three walks and no strikeouts. Kelsey Reynolds threw her four shutout of the season for Seattle University as they beat Saint Martin’s 5-0 Friday afternoon. Reynolds surrendered just four hits and posted two strikeouts in her complete game effort. Seattle scored twice in both the first and second innings and added their final run in the third. White, Sigafoos, Lisa Holombo and Katee Nauert accounted for the Saints’ hits, all singles. Saint Martin’s plays two more game on Saturday against Montana State Billings and Sonoma State before wrapping up play with a game against Western Oregon on Sunday.
