Softball: Saints lose two close ones to Seattle
April 24, 2007
Lacey, WA – On the day when Saint martin’s honored
their seniors, the Saints fell just short of two wins over Seattle
University losing game one 1-0 and game two 3-1 Tuesday afternoon at the
SMU Softball Field.
Game one was a low scoring, low hit pitcher’s dual
between SMU’s Tana Lingl and SU’s Erin Martin. Lingl threw all seven
innings surrendering just one run on five hits while striking out seven.
Martin also threw a complete game and allowed just four hits while
striking out 12.
Both teams were held scoreless until the sixth when
Seattle got their lone run. Cassi Sharp came in to pinch hit and sent
one over the wall in right field.
The Saints tried to make a comeback in the bottom of
the seventh. They loaded the bases on three consecutive hits but two
force outs and a strike out put an end to the rally.
Marlaina Irwin, Kirstin Davidson, Danni Ballard and
Kristi Sigafoos each accounted for one Saint hit.
Seattle took the early lead in game two with one run
in the second on an RBI single by Kelli Merek. They would add two more
in the third on a two-run double by Brenda Stice.
The Saints got one on the board in the sixth. With
one out and the bases loaded Sonya Ramos hit an RBI single to score
Davidson. The Redhawks then brought in Martin who got them out of the
inning without any more damage.
Ramos was 3-3 in the game while Davidson went 3-4,
both had three singles. Ballard had two hits including a single and a
double.
The Saints next game will be this Saturday as they
take on Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR.
