Softball: Saints drop two to Crusaders

Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s lost yet another pair of
close games to Northwest Nazarene Saturday falling 4-2 in game one and
6-3 in game two in extra innings.
The Saints picked up two runs in the third on a two
run double by Katee Nauert to take the 2-1 lead. The Crusaders were able
to tie it up in the fourth on a solo homerun by Amanda Phillips.
Both teams were held scoreless through the next two
innings but in the top of the seventh NNU led off with back-to-back
singles that came around to score on RBI singles by Rachel Bare and
Vanessa Shaw.
Saint Martin’s got their first two batters on in the
bottom of the inning but couldn’t bring them home.
Northwest Nazarene again took the early lead in game
two with a three spot in the second on a RBI single by Phillips and a
two run double by Lori Setbacken.
SMU was able to tie the game with a RBI singles by
Nauert in the second and fourth, and a solo homerun by Danni Ballard in
the sixth.
The Crusaders picked up three in the top of the
eighth on a Saint error and a two run shot by Phillips, enough to take
the lead and the win.
Tana Lingl, who threw two complete games for the
Saints, going 15 innings and striking out 11 while only walking two,
took the loss in both games.
The Saints get set to face Seattle University on
Tuesday the 24th with a doubleheader at home starting at 3pm.
