Softball: Saints narrowly fall to Redhawks

Seattle, WA (April 12) – Saint Martin’s University
wound up on the losing end of two hard fought pitching duals against
Seattle University Thursday. The two teams combined for just one earned
run on the day.
In the opener SU’s Kelsey Reynolds threw a four-hit
shutout. She walked two and struck out eight to pick up the win. Ryanne
Horton started for the Saints and allowed just three hits while walking
four and striking out six.
Both of the runs scored by Seattle came on errors.
Marlaina Irwin was the only player in the game with more then one hit,
going 2-3.
In game two the Saints got a run in the top of the
first on a Redhawk throwing error, after a single by Danni Ballard, to
score Irwin.
Seattle was able to tie the game in the bottom of
the inning and took the lead with another run in the third. Both runs
scored on errors. Brenda Stice picked up the only RBI of the day with a
solo homerun in the sixth.
Tana Lingl suffered the loss giving up just four
hits in the game. Katie Rojano earned the win for the Redhawks allowing
five hits and striking out seven.
Holly Morris, Kirstin Davidson, Megan Crager, Alicia
Fuchs, and Ballard each accounted for one of the Saints’ hits. No player
had more then one hit in the game.
SMU will host Western Washington University in a
doubleheader this Saturday starting at noon.
