April
6, 2007
Nampa, ID (April 5) – Saint Martin’s softball split
with Northwest Nazarene University taking game one 4-2 and falling just
shy in game two 11-10 as NNU picked up the winning run in the bottom of
the seventh.
The Saints snapped a 2-2 tie in the top of the
seventh in game one. With two outs NNU’s Rachel Bare gave up a single to
Kirstin Davidson and then Ryanne Horton hit a shot over the right
centerfield wall. SMU held off the Crusaders in the bottom of the inning
to pick up the win.
Tana Lingl earned the victory allowing just six hits
in seven innings and walking only one while striking out seven. Bare,
who also threw a complete game, took the loss for the Crusaders.
The two teams combined for 26 hits in game two. The
Saints quickly picked up four runs in the first inning and two more in
the second. The Crusaders went on a hitting spree of their own with two
runs in the first and six in the second.
The Saints went into the seventh down 10-7 but put
together a two-out rally. Holly Morris and Marlaina Irwin had
back-to-back singles and Davidson reached base on a throwing error by
the shortstop to load the bases. A single by Danni Ballard and another
NNU error brought in all three runners to tie the game.
NNU loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh
and got a fielder’s choice by Dana Shipley to drive in the winning run.
Kristi Sigafoos had four hits, including two
doubles, for the Saints. Davidson had three hits in the game including a
homerun and drove in three while scoring three runs. Sigafoos finished
the day 6-8 and Davidson went 5-8.
The Saints will face Central Washington University
tomorrow in a doubleheader in Ellensburg.
