Softball: Saints drop two to Wildcats

Lacey, WA (March 17) – Saint Martin’s softball lost
two games to Central Washington University, 9-2 and 8-1, Saturday at the
SMU Softball Field.
The Wildcats picked up one run in the first on an
RBI double by Kelli Spaulding and one more in the second on a lead off
home run by Sara Badgley.
The Saints answered with two runs of their own in
the bottom of the second. After Ryanne Horton walked Holly Morris
tripled to left then scored on a throwing error by the left fielder.
Central put up a two spot in the third to regain the
lead then picked up another run in the fifth. They put the game away in
the sixth when they posted four runs on four hits including RBI singles
by Catrina Robertson and Alyssa Ward and an RBI double by Logan Mohr.
Badgley was credited with the win while Horton took
the loss. Morris’ triple was the only hit for the Saints as they were
outhit by the Wildcats 11-1. Central got two hits each from Kasey
Druffel, Mohr and Badgley.
CWU again took the early lead in game two with two
runs in the top of the first. They put up five runs in the third on
three consecutive hits by Mallory Holtman, Spaulding and Robertson and a
walk by Badgley to start off the inning. Central would get one more in
the seventh. The Wildcats were led by Robertson with three hits and
three RBIs.
The Saints picked up their only run in the fourth on
a single up the middle by Horton to score Danni Ballard. Sonya Ramos had
two hits for the Saints while Morris, Ballard and Horton each had one.
The Saints next game is scheduled for March 24th
against Seattle University in Seattle.
