Softball: Saints lose home openers
March 10, 2007
Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s softball played their
first home games of the season falling 7-1 and 9-5 on a soggy day at
Saints Field.
Game one saw the Saints score the first run of the
game in the bottom of the first on a solo homerun by Danni Ballard. That
would be the only run the Saints would bring home.
The Wolves scored three in the fourth on a two run
double by Bonnie Trigero and a single by Shanley Young. They scored two
more in the sixth. Jamie Becker capped things off in the seventh with a
two run homer.
Ballard led the Saints with three hits while Kirstin
Davidson added two. The Wolves got two hits each from Trigero and
Kristen Maglasang.
Ryanne Horton, who threw all seven innings for the
Saints, was tagged with the loss.
The Saints led early in game two as well. They
picked up two runs in the second on a home run by Sonya Ramos only to
see Western Oregon put up a four spot in the top of the third. The
Saints were able to get one back in the bottom of the inning.
In the top of the fifth, up 5-3 the Wolves got
another four run inning on four hits including a three run homer by
Krysta Pennington.
Saint Martin’s battled in the bottom of the inning
scoring two runs on RBI singles by Davidson and Horton. The game was
called after five innings due to rain.
Ballard and Horton each had two hits for the Saints.
The Wolves had four players with two hits including Maglasang, Trina
Dorn, Trigero, and Young.
The Saints get ready to face Central Washington in a
double header next Saturday, March 17th.
