Softball: Saints swept by Western Washington, finish series 1-3 against
Vikings
April 23, 2006
Bellingham, WA --- Saint Martin's University
suffered a sweep against Western Washington, 1-0 and 5-3, in a Great
Northwest Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Sunday at Viking
Field.
The Vikings improved to 19-23 overall and 7-9 in
league play. Saint Martin's dropped to 7-31 overall and 3-16 in GNAC
action.
In the first game, WWU’s Ashley Osman scattered five
hits, struck out one, did not issue a walk and allowed just two Saints
to reach second base.
Tana Lingl (Jr., Auburn, WA) was the tough-luck
loser for Saint Martin's. She gave up just four hits in 6-1/3 innings,
striking out two and walking two.
The game's only run came in the bottom of the
seventh inning when Western's Devin Dykstra drew a leadoff walk,
advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single to
leftfield by Osman.
Courtney Cunningham (Fr., Benton City, WA) was
2-for-3 for Saint Martin's.
In the second game, Western took a 3-0 lead in the
first inning.
After Saint Martin's knotted the score at 3-3 with
three unearned runs in the top of the fifth, WWU doubled in what proved
to be the winning run in the bottom of that frame, eventually scoring on
an error.
Lisa Holombo (Fr., Bonney Lake, WA) got the loss for
the Saints, going 4-2/3 innings, before being relieved by Lingl.
