Softball: Saints swept by Seattle University
April 7, 2006
Seattle, WA --- The Saint Martin's women’s softball
team was swept by Seattle University, 8-0 and 4-3, in a Great Northwest
Athletic Conference doubleheader at Logan Field Friday afternoon.
SU’s Brenda Stice and Marjalena Santos each hit two
home runs in the doubleheader, accounting for all four of Seattle's runs
in the second game. Stice hit her team-leading eighth home run of the
season in the first inning to drive in three runs and Santos hit her
sixth of the year in the sixth inning to snap a 3-3 tie after the Saints
(5-27, 1-10 GNAC) had scored two runs in the second on a double by
Nicole Hoerner (Fr., Kennewick, WA) and a run in the sixth on a bunt by
Lisa Holombo (Fr., Bonney Lake, WA) to pull even.
Holombo went 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI
for the Saints.
SU’s (20-13, 5-1 GNAC) Erin Martin pitched the final
two innings, allowing two hits and an unearned run, to earn her 14th win
against six losses.
In the opener, Martin was dominant on the mound.
After pitching the school's first perfect game against the Saints on
Wednesday, she came back and allowed just one hit in the five-inning
game while equaling a career-high 10 strikeouts.
Seattle’s bats were also hot as they put together a
nine-hit attack and scored in every inning.
The Saints got their lone hit off Martin in the
second inning when Holly Morris (Fr., Richland, WA) led off the inning
with a single.
The Saints return to action for a doubleheader
against GNAC foe Central Washington on April 21 at 1 p.m. in Ellensburg.
