Softball: Lingl and Lessard combine to one-hit Seattle, Saints split with Redhawks

April 5, 2006

Lacey, WA --- The Saint Martin's University women’s softball team earned a split in a non-conference doubleheader against Seattle University at Saints Field Wednesday afternoon. The Saints won the opener 3-0, but the Redhawks’ Erin Martin pitched a perfect game in a 9-0 win in the second game.

In the opener, Tana Lingl (So., Auburn, WA) and Carleen Lessard (Jr., Longview, WA) combined to one-hit Seattle (18-13). Lingl didn't allow a hit during her four-inning stint, walking three and striking out three, to earn her second win of the season. Lessard pitched the final three innings, giving up the only hit to earn the save, while striking out two.

The Saints (5-25) scored single runs in the second, fifth and sixth. Sonya Ramos (Jr., Sunnyside, WA) had a RBI single in the second. SMU then added a run on a pair of errors in the fifth and got an insurance run in the sixth on a single by Katee Nauert (Fr., Spokane, WA).

In the nightcap, Martin allowed just one ball out of the infield on a fly ball to center field by Halley Cey (So., Spokane, WA) in the second inning. She struck out seven in improving to 12-6 on the season.

Saint Martin’s will face Seattle once again on Friday in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Logan Field.
