April 2, 2006
Turlock, CA --- The Saint Martin’s softball team was
edged by Sonoma State 1-0 in its first game of the day and then came
back to defeat Notre Dame de Namur 11-6 for its first win at the Togo's
Tournament of Champions softball tournament.
In the opener, Sonoma’s Heather James drove in the
game's only run with a double in the sixth inning. Tana Lingl (Jr.,
Auburn, WA) was the hard-luck loser for the Saints allowing just four
hits, while striking out five hitters.
Sonoma’s Isabel Banales limited the Saints to just
five singles and one walk in seven innings. Banales was named to the
All-Tournament team following the three-day event. She led a pitching
staff that had the third lowest earned run average in the entire 20-team
tournament (0.82).
Nicole Hoerner (Fr., Kennewick, WA) had two of the
Saints' five hits.
Saint Martin's had its bats working in the final
game of the tournament against Notre Dame de Namur as Halley Cey (So.,
Spokane, WA), Holly Morris (Fr., Richland, WA) and Lisa Holombo (Fr.,
Bonney Lake, WA) all homered to lead the Saints to their only tournament
victory.

RBI, while Cey, Krishanna Nass (Sr., Scappoose, OR), Marlaina Irwin
(So., Centralia, WA) and Sonya Ramos (Jr., Sunnyside, WA) all tallied
