Softball: Nauert lifts Saints to earn split with Northwest Nazarene

Nampa, ID --- Saint Martin's and Northwest Nazarene
split a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball games on
Saturday at Halle Field in Nampa. The Northwest Nazarene softball team
extended their school-record winning streak to five with a 4-3 win in
the opening game, but the Saints rallied from a 6-0 deficit in the
seventh to take the second game 8-6.
Adrian Herman scattered seven hits and allowed just
one earned run, pitching NNU (10-8, 1-1 GNAC) to a win in the opener.
She didn't walk a batter and fanned five as she improved her record in
the circle to 5-3.
The Crusaders scored twice in the second, and then
added two runs in the third on a single and an error to overcome a 3-2
deficit.
Krishanna Nass (Sr., Scappoose, OR) and Holly Morris
(Fr., Richland, WA) each had two hits for the Saints (3-16, 1-4 GNAC),
who outhit NNU 7-5.
In the second game, NNU built a 6-0 lead through
five innings before a two-out error in the sixth opened the flood gates.
SMU pinch-hitter Katee Nauert (Fr., Mead, WA) hit a two-run home run in
the inning and the Saints then put together seven hits for six more runs
in the seventh with Nauert's two-run single snapping a 6-6 tie.
Nauert, Karen Waznis (So., Avondale, AZ) and Sonya
Ramos (Jr., Sunnyside, WA) all had two safeties for SMU.
The Saints will return to action next week when they
host Seattle University (Mar. 25, 12/2:00pm) and Western Oregon (Mar.
26, 12/2:00pm) at Saints Field on the SMU campus.
