Men’s Soccer: Saints can’t stop Yellowjackets
September 16, 2007
Billings, MT – Saint Martin’s fell 2-0 to Montana
State Billings in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Sunday at the
College of Technology Field.
Sam Charles got the Yellowjackets on the board with
a goal in the sixth minute on an arcing pass from Scott Dixon. Charles
would go one-on-one with the Saints goalkeeper Zac Lubin and convert
from 10 yards out.
Charles picked up his second goal of the day and an
insurance goal for Billings at 19:13 going around two defenders to
score.
“Billings has talented, well coached, and athletic
players who put us under pressure for two really good goals. We really
did not deal well with that pressure,” said head coach Rob Walker. “We
battled back and had a couple of good chances in the second half but
couldn’t capitalize on them. Defensively we got hammered. MSUB is a very
assertive team.”
The Saints got off just three shots while the
Yellowjackets sent 22 at the SMU goal. Lubin spent 90 minutes in the
goal for the Saints and recorded five saves in the game.
“As the game went on we stepped up but we need to
find that quality a little bit earlier into the games on both ends;
better defense and better attack in the final 35 yards. We have good
pieces to the puzzle we just have to keep putting it together and hope
for some results soon,” added Walker.
The Saints will face Pacific Lutheran University in
Tacoma on September 24th.
