Men’s Soccer: Golden Eagles top Saints in soccer opener
August 23, 2007
Los Angeles, CA – Cal State L.A. picked up three
goals in the first half on their way to a 5-0 victory over Saint
Martin’s Thursday at the Jesse Owens Track.
The Golden Eagles’ scored all three goals in a span
of 7:18 midway through the first half. They would pick up two more in
the second half, the final one coming with just over three minutes
remaining.
John Massaquoi put in two goals for the Golden
Eagles, who outshot the Saints 22-4 in the contest.
T.J. Young had four saves for the Saints in his 90
minutes at the goal.
“Cal State LA is a very well-coached and crafty team
and they put us in some situations in the first half that we didn't cope
with very well,” said head coach Rob Walker. “The good news is that we
were combative and maybe brought out a little bit of the Golden Eagles’
best in the second half. Erik Orozco, Vlad Voin, Tucker Maxwell, and
Daniel Palermo provided spark to our game in the second half.”
The Saints remain in California for one more game
against Biola University Friday night.
