Bellingham, WA – The Saint Martin’s men’s golf team
finished tenth at the Viking Invitational hosted by Western Washington
University, which ended Tuesday. As a team the Saints shot 297 in the
first round, 298 in the second, and 300 in the third for a total of 890.
The Saints were led by Hiro Nezu who finished the
tournament tied for 16th shooting one over par. Nezu shot two over par
in the first round but bounced back two under in round two. He finished
out round three one over to complete the tournament with a total 217.
“I’m really proud of the guys, especially
considering that we have three freshmen playing in their first
tournaments. Hiro definitely stepped up, took a lead position and was
consistent,” said head coach Mark Jensen. “I’m proud of Justin Lanman
too, shooting just four over par.”
Lanman came in tied for 21st with a score of 220.
Olof Rosborg finished up the tournament with a 226 landing him tied for
39th. Peter Perkins tied for 57th shooting a 232, while Jacob Logsdon
finished 70th with a 243.
“Our ball striking was really good, but we struggled
with the putter. That’s what hurt us. Our finish isn’t exactly what we
would have liked but we’ll play better next time,” stated Jensen.
The Saints’ next tournament is October 1-3 as they
take part in the Chico State Invitational in Chico, CA.
