Men’s Golf: Saints finish tied for seventh at CSUB Spring Invite, Prante
finishes in top 20

Bakersfield, CA --- The Saint Martin's University
men’s golf team finished tied for seventh at the Cal State University -
Bakersfield Spring Invitational Golf Tournament which ended Tuesday at
Seven Oaks Country Club.
The CSUB Spring Invitational featured a strong field
that included six of the top 18 teams in NCAA Division II play and a
squad from Division I power UCLA.
Saint Martin’s finished knotted at seventh with
Grand Canyon University with a 36-hole score of 625. The Saints shaved
17 strokes off their first round score of 321 to card a final round 304.
Host CSUB, ranked No. 2 in the latest Golfstat/NCAA
Division II national rating, came back from a one-stroke deficit by
shooting a tournament–best 290 Tuesday to finish at 601, 13 strokes
better than runner–up Cal State San Bernardino. It was the seventh title
in eight years for the Roadrunners.
The tournament was reduced to 36 holes after
Monday’s second round was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Individually, Nick Bell of Cal State Monterey Bay
carded an even par 72 Tuesday to earn medalist honors at three–over 147.
Shane Prante (Sr., Olympia, WA), the Saints two-time
All-American, finished tied for 16th at 154, with an opening round 78
and a 76 final round.
SMU’s Jordan Burns (So., Longview, WA) tied for 27th
at 156, Derek Siesser (Jr., Maple Valley, WA) tied for 38th at 158,
Peter Perkins (Jr., Bremerton, WA) tied for 48th at 160 and John
Eisentrout (Fr., Olympia, WA) tied for 68th at 164.
Saint Martin's next competes at the Washington
National Winter Intercollegiate Tournament on March 6-7 at the
Washington National Golf Course in Auburn, WA.
