Saints open spring with nine-stroke win over Western in battle of nationally ranked teams February 7, 2005 Ninth ranked Saint Martin’s opened their spring schedule with a nine stroke victory over sixth ranked Western Washington in a duel men’s golf match at the Olympia Golf and Country Club on Monday. The national rankings are according to the GCAA/Precept NCAA National Division II Coaches Poll. Kris Swanson’s 4-under 67 and Shane Prante’s 68 paced the Saints who outplayed the Vikings 283-292. Also scoring for the Saints were Jordan Burns (+2, 73) and Derek Siesser (+4, 75). “It was a good win over a quality team,” Saints coach Kurt Kageler said. “The pins were tucked, it was cold, and with those conditions, 1-under as a team is a fantastic score.” Saint Martin’s Elijah Perkins and Jared Bouchey also shot well playing as individuals with scores of 69 and 71 respectively. The Saints next compete in the Washington National Winter Intercollegiate Tournament on Feb. 21-22 at the Washington National Golf Course in Auburn.
