Prante fires a third-round 65, Saints place 11th in elite field February 26, 2004 The Saints golf team traveled to Bakersfield, CA for the Family Motors Invitational which featured six teams ranked in the top ten in NCAA Division II. The Saints struggled the first day with poor putting and eventually would finish with a two round total of 18-over par 35 strokes behind leader CSU-Bakersfield. Assistant Coach Todd Abbot commented, “We didn’t play as well as we would have liked. From tee to green we could have played with anyone, it was our poor putting that kept us from playing well.“ The highlight of the tournament came during the third round when sophomore Shane Prante fired a tournament low 65 following up a pair of 73s the first day. Prante’s three day total of 211 helped him finish tied for sixth in the field of 90 golfers. The sophomore from Tumwater is currently ranked 14th in the Golfstat Cup Standings, which includes all teams affiliated with the NCAA (Divisions I-III) and NAIA. Other scorers for the Saints included Jared Bouchey (220, T38), Kris Swanson (224, T53), Tom Hinton (229, T68), and Chris Westrum (232, 76). The Men’s golf team travels next to Trophy Lake Golf and Casting Club in Tacoma, WA for a Dual Match against Pacific Lutheran University.
