Campisi and Riak earn Player-of-the-Week honors
November 5, 2007
Lacey, WA – Shealun Campisi and John Riak were named
as GNAC Players-of-the-Week for their efforts on the volleyball court
and cross country course respectively.
Campisi posted a total of 31 kills and hit for a
.475 percentage as the Saints swept Alaska Anchorage and Alaska
Fairbanks this week. She added 24 digs leading SMU to their third and
fourth wins of the season.
“Shea is an outstanding player and a great leader
for our program. This past week against UAA and UAF, she was relentless
offensively and defensively,” said head coach Phil Ibarra. “She
definitely knows the game the way it should be played. She can adjust to
any match up against her and perform to the best of her ability.”
Riak won the NCAA West Regional title Saturday in a
10,000 meter time of 30:32.75. It was his fifth win this season and his
12th career win. He is just the third male since the GNAC began in 1999
to win both the GNAC Championship and the West Regional Championship in
the same year.
“John's work ethics are second to none, he is
totally focused on getting the job done,” said head coach Julie
Sullivan. “My job has been to make things work so that he hasn't had to
give everything in every race to win, but to race smart, and thus
prevent injury and burn-out at the most important time of the season.
John looks forward to Nationals with plenty of energy left for another
great race.”
