Cross Country: Saints fare well at PLU Invite

Tacoma, WA (October 7) – Saint Martin’s cross
country team ran well on Saturday at the PLU Invite with the men’s team
taking fourth overall and the women’s team taking fifth.
In the men’s race, Niwar Nasim ran a season’s best
26:30 to finish 17th. Josh Gatbunton, who led after the first mile,
finished 19th in 26:33. Tristan Beach ran a 30 second PR to finished
30th in 27:06. Robbie Wilbur came in 47th with a time of 27:35 while
Asiki Ayume ran a season best 28:29 to finish 60th. Kevin Tober ran a PR
of 30:45 to capture 70th and Brian Gerry finished 73rd in 33:22, a
season best.
On the women’s side, seven of the eight scoring
runners ran PR’s. Jessie Dunnam led the Saints finishing in eighth place
with a time of 23:04. Amy Layton finished 21st in 23:36. Taylor Shipman
ran a 24:22, good enough for 31st while Krinda Carlson landed in 34th
with a 24:42. Kaleigh Bishop was 59th in 25:21 and Jessica Pendon
finished 61st with 25:22. Chelsi Claussen’s 25:49 put her in 63rd and
Katelynn Blume finished 85th with a time of 28:23.
Running unattached were Helen Camden who ran a
23:53, Dharma Beatty 24:33, Emily Baird 26:31 and Caleb Timmer who ran a
PR of 26:55.
Saint Martin’s John Riak competed in the Western
Washington University Invite Saturday. It was an exciting finish with
the race practically tied at the very end. Riak officially finished
second in the 10k race with a time of 32:10.10 while Simon Fraser’s
David Wambui was awarded first with a time of 32:10.00. Riak’s time set
a new school record.
The Saints’ next meet is October 21st when Saint
Martin’s hosts the GNAC Championships.
