Baseball: Saints make quick work of Wildcats

Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s pounded out 18 hits on
their way to a 9-3 win over Central Washington University Wednesday at
Saints Field.
SMU broke things open in the fifth inning plating
six runs on eight hits. They picked up two runs on consecutive singles
by Shane Schoeneberg, Tom Barlow, Nate Baker, Brandon Kuykendall and
Craig Yuhas to start off the inning.
After scoring another run on a double play Jordan
Lettau hit a RBI double then came in to score on a triple by Michael
McIver. A RBI single to left from Carlo Ramirez would cap off the
inning.
Scott Leshner threw six shutout innings before
finally allowing a run in the top of the seventh as Central picked up
two runs to make it 8-2. The Saints answered back with one run in the
bottom of the inning on a triple by Baker.
Leshner earned the win with 6 1/3 innings pitched
giving up just two earned runs on six hits while walking just one.
Andrew Neisinger came in to finish the game for the Saints with one
earned run on two hits.
Seven Saints had multiple hits in the game including
Schoeneberg, Baker, and Lettau who had three each. Baker drove in two
runs while Yuhas picked up three RBI.
The Saints and Wildcats will meet up again this
weekend for a four games series with two games at Central on Saturday
and two games at SMU on Sunday.
