Baseball: Saints win slugfest against NNU

Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s belted out 15 hits on
their way to a 17-10 victory over Northwest Nazarene University; game
two was suspended due to darkness with the score tied 3-3 in the 7th
inning and will be continued on Saturday.
The Saints got one in the bottom of the first on a
leadoff homerun to right center by Shane Schoeneberg, his seventh of the
season. They exploded for eight runs in the second capped off by a Craig
Yuhas grand slam.
Northwest Nazarene made it 9-5 after tacking on a
run in the fourth but the Saints came right back up and plated four more
in their half of the inning, they continued to answer the Crusaders
every time they scored the rest of the way.
Schoeneberg and Tanner Gronowski both had three hits
for the Saints. Schoeneberg was 3-for-6 with five runs batted in and
three runs scored.
Andy Cole, Nate Baker, Yuhas, Luke Abbott, and Tom
Barlow had two hits apiece. Yuhas drove in five runs while Baker and
Abbott picked up two RBIs each.
Kevin Jones picked up the win in relief for the
Saints going 3 2/3 innings allowing five hits and four walks. Alex
VanOeveren took the loss for the Crusaders.
Game two will be complete tomorrow starting at
11:30am before the start of the regularly scheduled doubleheader.
