Baseball: Wildcats take two from Saints
April 29,
2007
Lacey, WA – Saint Martin’s fell to Central
Washington University in both games of Sunday’s doubleheader at Saints
Field. The Wildcats took game one 8-5 and rallied to win game two 6-4.
Central scored first in game one posting a three
spot in the second. Nate Rylaarsdam hit a two run double and scored on a
single up the middle by Tyler Farrington.
The Wildcats added five more in the third. With one
out and the bases loaded Dean Tomlinson singled up the middle to score
two runs. Rylaarsdam then hit another double to score two more. Derek
O’Konek singled in the final run of the inning.
The Saints answered back with five runs in the
bottom of the fourth. Tanner Gronowski led off with a single and scored
on a single up the middle by Nate Baker. Consecutive singles by Adam
Siler and Shane Schoeneberg loaded the bases. Richard O’Neill singled to
left scoring Baker. An error by the left fielder allowed Siler and
Schoeneberg to score right behind him. O’Neill would later score on a
ground out by Curtis Thibault.
That would be the end of the run production as
neither team crossed home in the final five innings.
Baker led the Saints going 3-4 with one RBI and one
run scored.
Jordan Moore threw a complete game for the Wildcats
allowing nine hits and striking out three. Nick Bolthouse took the loss
for the Saints.
The Wildcats again scored first in game two with two
runs in the top of the third, but the Saints quickly answered with two
runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
Baker led off with a single to right, advanced to
third on a single by Siler, and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Schoeneberg. Three batters later Thibault doubled down the left field
line scoring O’Neill and tying the game 2-2.
After the Wildcats went up 3-2 in fourth the Saints
regained the lead with two runs in the fifth on a Wildcat error and RBI
single by Craig Yuhas.
Baker was 2-3 with two runs scored while Siler and
Yuhas both went 2-4.
The Wildcats were able to tie it in the sixth and
take the definitive edge in the seventh on RBI singles by Justin
Marshall and Geno Olson.
The Saints will play their final series of the year
at home next weekend against Western Oregon University.
