Baseball: Saints land six on GNAC all-star team, Brilhante named Freshman-of-the-Year

Lacey, WA --- Saint Martin’s outfielder Ryan
Brilhante (Fr., Kailua, HI) was named the Great Northwest Athletic
Conference Freshman-of-the-Year and Brady Halverson (Sr., Seattle, WA),
Adam Siler (Jr., Port Orchard, WA) and Nate Baker (So., Bothell, WA)
were first-team selections on the GNAC baseball team announced today.
Brilhante was the lone freshman selected to the
all-star team, earning honorable mention honors. He finished with 21
hits, 17 runs scored, and eight stolen bases (7th GNAC).
Halverson, one of only two seniors on SMU’s roster,
led the Saints with a 4.08 earned run average (4th GNAC), opposing
batting average of .252 (3rd GNAC) and five wins (tied 6th GNAC) after
undergoing Tommy John surgery just a year ago.
Siler, a repeat first team selection from last year,
was one of two players selected at two positions; earning first team
infield honors as well as second-team pitching accolades. He led the
Saints with a .464 slugging percentage, .461 on base percentage (4th
GNAC), 40 RBI’s (5th GNAC), 16 doubles (2nd GNAC) and was second with a
.350 batting average (9th GNAC). On the mound, Siler led the conference
with five saves.
Baker led the team with a .361 batting average (4th
GNAC) and was second with an on base percentage of .460 (5th GNAC). He
led the team with 60 hits (3rd GNAC), 39 runs scored (4th GNAC) and 15
stolen bases (1st GNAC).
Receiving second-team honors were SMU catcher
Richard O’Neill (So., Edmonds, WA) and second baseman Vince Maughan
(Jr., Bellevue, WA).
O’Neill finished third on the team with a .301
batting average and .420 slugging percentage. He led the Saints in
triples (tied 3rd GNAC) and homeruns and also finished tied for second
in runs scored with 28.
Maughan posted a .267 batting average and .354
slugging percentage. He finished with 20 runs scored, 43 hits, 21 RBI’s
and seven doubles.
Saint Martin’s finished the season at 16-31 overall
and 8-15 in GNAC action.
