Baseball: Saints split twinbill with Central Washington

Lacey, WA --- The Saints pounded out 17 hits,
including three each by Nate Baker (So., Bothell, WA), Richard O'Neill
(So., Edmonds, WA) and Ezzard Wilkins (Fr., Lacey, WA), to win the
opener 12-7. Saint Martin's fell 3-2 in the nightcap to come away with a
split of a Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader Thursday at
Saints Field.
In the opener, Baker's two-run single snapped a 7-7
tie and the Saints added three insurance runs; one on a single by Adam
Siler (Jr., Port Orchard, WA), one on a triple by O'Neill and another on
a wild pitch.
Baker and Siler each drove in three runs and Maki
Smith (Jr., Shoreline, WA), Curtis Thibault (Jr., Cashmere, WA) and
Siler each had two hits for the Saints (16-29, 8-13 GNAC).
Brady Halverson (Sr., Seattle, WA), playing in his
final home game, pitched the first seven innings and left with a 5-4
lead. Brett Efaw (Jr., Boise, ID), who pitched the final two innings,
received credit for the victory.
In the nightcap, CWU’s Rick Templeton allowed two
runs in the third, but then blanked Saint Martin's on one hit over the
final four innings.
Nicholas Bolthouse (So., Eagle, ID) scattered seven
hits over the first six innings, but managed to hold the Wildcats off
the scoreboard until the sixth inning.
Also playing in his final home game, Donnie
Bradetich (Sr., Eugene, OR), tallied one of SMU’s three hits in the
contest.
