Baseball: Saints land eight on GNAC All-Academic team

Lacey, WA --- Eight student-athletes from Saint Martin’s University have been named to the 2006 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Baseball Academic All-Conference Team, released today by the conference office.

Saint Martin’s Tip Wonhoff (Jr., South Bend, WA) heads up the all-star team. Wonhoff, a Political Science major, has a cumulative grade point average of 3.92. He is also one of four repeaters, all from Saint Martin’s, from last year’s team. Other repeaters included Curtis Thibault (Jr., Cashmere, WA), Maki Smith (Jr., Shoreline, WA) and Brett Efaw (Jr., Boise, ID).

Thibault is a Computer Science major with a 3.77 GPA, Smith is a History major with a GPA of 3.76 and Efaw maintains a 3.51 GPA as a Mathematics major.

New to the academic all-conference team for the Saints are Richard O’Neill (So., Edmonds, WA), Donnie Bradetich (Sr., Eugene, OR), Nick Bolthouse (So., Eagle, ID), and Adam Siler (Jr., Port Orchard, WA).

O’Neill maintains a 3.74 GPA as a Criminal Justice/English major, Bradetich is a Mathematics major with a 3.54 GPA, Bolthouse is a Business major with a 3.37 GPA, and Siler owns a 3.24 GPA as a Biology major.

In order to qualify for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must carry a 3.20 grade-point average, participate in at least 50 percent of their team's games, and be in at least their second year of competition at their institution.

Saint Martin’s, 15-28 overall and 7-12 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, wraps up its 2006 season this week with a home-and-away series against Central Washington. SMU, celebrating Senior Day, will play host to Central Washington tomorrow and then travel to Ellensburg on Friday to conclude the season. Both doubleheaders are scheduled for 1 p.m. starts.
