Student learning outcomes
The student will:
- Increase student/employee awareness of personal identity theft:
Students/employees will learn how to assess vulnerability of
personal identity items (checking/bank and other financial accounts
including credit/debit cards, Social Security number, cell phone
accounts, photo ID cards, insurance cards, motor vehicle
title/registration, etc.) and the process to protect themselves from
further loss when personal ID items are lost and/or stolen
(Immediate Police notification of loss/theft. Immediate financial
institution notification of loss/theft, cancellation of ID items,
etc.)
- Increase student/employee awareness of personal safety:
Students/employees will learn the process and phone number to call
for SMU Security Department Personal Safety Escorts.
Students/employees will learn to walk in the better lighted areas of
campus, the area 911 Emergency phone numbers, to walk in groups, to
avoid personal contact with persons unknown to them, to let others
know when going for a walk in the forested areas of campus, and to
report suspicious persons and/or activities to SMU Security and
Lacey Police.
- Students/employees will learn to lock vehicles and place
personal valuables in the trunk or glove compartment instead of
leaving same unlocked with personal/University property in plain
sight. Students/employees will learn to lock Residence Hall rooms,
Offices, and/or classrooms when leaving so as to minimize
unauthorized, easy access to personal/University property.
